Baar & Bass
A couple of weeks ago I was on the Kings Road and wondered into a new shop located between The Blue Bird and The Big Easy. I was completely wowed by the shop fit and the cool collective inside. I soon discovered that I knew the owner! Maddie and I met a couple of summers ago when we did the Pop-Up shop on the Portobello Road. Maddie is a total natural at merchandising and selling, I admired her enthusiasm and energy when we worked together in the Pop-Up, so it came as no surprise to see her shaking up the the Kings Road with her own creation, Baar & Bass.
Can you explain what the name means?
Baar & Bass means a collection. This is one that I have been building up for years.
Did you always dream of having your own shop since you were a little girl?
I think it is every little girls dream to own her own shop or empire of some kind. I guess for me it was just a place I could keep all of my collections and express my creativity. Baar & Bass is an accumulation of all of this. My love for furniture, art, set design and fashion.
Have you travelled far and wide to do the buy for the shop? If so, which has been your favourite location?
We have bought from all over the world. This allows our customer to find something new every time and keep their own collections as unique as themselves. Our favourite location so far has been Sri Lanka where we picked up a super heavy, onyx, eagle phone and we motorbiked it back. It’s sitting very proud in Baar and Bass at the moment.
What is your favourite piece in the shop right now?
My favourite pieces in the shop right now are by Ekaterina Kukhareva. All of her pieces are hand made on the Kings Road and the collection we have in at the moment has a twist of 60’s to it, which I love. She is very talented.
What pieces are you most excited about for Autumn/Winter- Baar ann Bass own brand. Watch this space.
